Spot the trends: Alamance-Caswell builders stage 2009 Parade of Homes

Sunday, September 6, 2009
(Updated 3:00 am)

Prospective homebuyers can sneak a peek at the latest building trends this month with the Alamance-Caswell Home Builders Association 2009 Parade of Homes.

The 19 homes featured range in price from the $120,000s to nearly $800,000 and are located from Gibsonville to Mebane.

The Parade will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sept. 13 and Sept. 19-20. Admission is free, but donations are requested for Loaves and Fishes Christian Food Ministry.

Builders use the annual event as a tool to show off their work, meet potential clients and illustrate the latest techniques and products available in homebuilding.

Parade visitors this year can look forward to seeing:

• Five Energy Star-certified homes, including three that also earned green building designations through the National Association of Home Builders. Both programs require third-party verification.

• Open floor plan designs throughout the home and first-floor master bedrooms.

• Gourmet kitchens with granite countertops,
upgraded appliances and built-in features.

• Luxury bathrooms with separate showers and tubs and special water features.

• Outdoor living spaces that extend the comforts of the home.

For more information about the Parade of Homes or a copy of the 2009 Parade magazine, contact the builders association at 227-1336 or visit www.alamancehba.org.

About Loaves and Fishes Christian Food Ministry

The Alamance-Caswell Home Builders Association is collecting donations of canned food for the Burlington ministry, which serves about 7,000 clients a month.

The food drive is important to the organization’s food
supply as it is helping about 20 percent more people this year than in 2008 because of economic strains brought about by issues including job cuts and energy costs.

The ministry regularly picks up donated food from local grocery stores and provides food to families in Alamance and surrounding counties.

When local donations are insufficient to meet demand, the ministry buys food at wholesale or less from the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina in Winston-Salem.

The organization’s other initiatives include meal delivery, utility assistance and financial counseling services. “We try to look at the whole person, rather than just a quick fix for food,” executive director Brenda Allen said.
