STONEVILLE — A 44-year-old man pleaded guilty after calling 911 in Rockingham County and threatening to kill President Barack Obama.
Steve Lee Stone of 109 Abernathy Drive pleaded guilty Wednesday in Rockingham County district court to one count each of communicating threats and misuse of the 911 system and two counts of resisting a public officer. He was sentenced to 18 months probation.
The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said emergency dispatchers received calls on July 30 and July 31 from a man who was threatening to assassinate the president.
A detective and a U.S. Secret Service agent later interviewed Stone. Deputy Fred East used his Taser to subdue Stone before arresting him. The sheriff's office described Stone as combative and said he did not listen to verbal commands.
