Rockingham County weekend: Chinqua Penn's fall concert series begins

Wednesday, September 2, 2009
(Updated 11:58 pm)

The weather has been absolutely beautiful for the past couple of days. Let’s hope it continues as you enjoy the outdoor activities this weekend.

Chinqua Penn Plantation kicks off its free Fall Concert Series tonight with Kirby Wilkins and some old-time rock ’n’ roll. Every Thursday in September will feature a concert under the stars. You also can buy a glass of wine from Chinqua Penn Vineyards or dinner by Mom’s Kitchen. So, take your lawn chair and relax.

In Stoneville on Saturday, the Summer Blast Car Show presented by Stoneville Ruritan Club takes place at Dollar General. If you are a car enthusiast, head over and check out all the fancy rides or enter your own classic ride. Money raised from this event will go back into the community to help families at Christmas.

And paddle down the Dan River on Saturday with the Dan River Basin Association as you float from the new Draper Landing access to Berry Hill Bridge. The trip will feature a lot of historic markers along the way. Bring your boat and lunch and remember to dress in layers. If you don’t have your own boat or kayak, rentals are available, so call and reserve your spot.
