Good Stuff: Staff at public library goes above and beyond

When times get tough, such as they are now, citizens like me have to change their habits. Although I may not have the luxury of buying the books, music and movies that I want, I can count on our public library to have them.

I would like to thank the staff at the Greensboro Public Library and mention a few standouts in particular.

When we moved here a year and a half ago, our first experience was with story time at the Kathleen Clay Edwards branch. My children and I were and still are enamored with Tammy Miller, as she does a fantastic job keeping all the young ones excited about reading.

My next encounter with a shining star was Ronald Headen at the Hemphill Branch. When I couldn’t find what I was looking for, he was more than willing to go out of his way to order the books and music I was interested in.

When an order was not possible, he pointed me in the direction of Stephen Culkin, the person in charge of all inter-library loans. This gentleman follows up in record time and gets you the material you need from all around North Carolina. I don’t know where I would be without him.

Another very important person is Beth Sheffield. My book club is pinching pennies like the rest of America, and our group was thinking of dismantling because we couldn’t afford to keep purchasing the books needed. Then we discovered the book club sets the library offered.

Once we gave our information over to Ms. Sheffield, she worked with us to get our selections as well as asked us what we would like her to order for future meetings. When a set had been checked out, she would offer other selections for that month.

Thanks so much for all that y’all do.
