Two area teenagers earned tickets to the American Idol Summer Tour for their work with Annie Penn Hospital’s 2009 United Way campaign.

Volunteers Kayla Ore and Matthew Williams won a limo ride and tickets to the tour at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Kayla and Matthew sold refrigerator frames to raise money for the United Way.

The teens were among 17 volunteers who logged a total of more than 1,000 hours at Annie Penn this summer. They were honored at an appreciation luncheon on Aug. 14.

Meredith Citty, who has volunteered at the hospital’s Woodmont Child Development Center for four summers, was given a plaque for 418 service hours.

“We had an outstanding group this summer,” said Sharon Troxler, Annie Penn’s director of marketing and volunteer services. “We would love to welcome these teens back as employees some day, and I have a feeling that we will.”
