HIGH POINT (MCT) — The city's Planning and Development Department has created a final draft of the University Area Plan and will answer questions from the public at a meeting next week.
The meeting will be held at Christ United Methodist Church at 1300 N. College Drive from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 3.
The plan is available online at www.high-point.net/plan/UnivArea.cfm.
The plan was created after the city studied High Point University's growth in recent years to suggest areas for its future growth. A draft of the plan was presented at a meeting in November. A revised draft was presented in June.
Major changes since the June meeting include an additional suggested area of growth for the university bounded by Harrison Street, Meadow Brook Avenue and Boundary Avenue.
Suggested areas of growth are broken down into three phases that the city suggests as potential growth areas for the university, with phase one being purchased first. The university will purchase the land in the next eight to 20 years depending on its needs.
A brief overview of the plan will be presented at the Planning and Zoning Commission's monthly meeting tonight at 211 S. Hamilton St. at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers.
The plan will go before the commission for approval on Sept. 29. in the same chambers. It will then go before the City Council on Oct. 19.
