The town has a pharmacy once again. Gibsonville Pharmacy opened Aug. 17.

Owner and pharmacist Todd Smith said his business will give customers one-on-one attention and service that can be hard to find in other pharmacies.

“I think this is what Gibsonville had really grown accustomed to when David Hix owned it, and we’re bringing that back,” Smith said, referring to the pharmacist who ran Gibsonville Drug Co. in the same spot until retiring several years ago.

Gibsonville Pharmacy is an independent drugstore under the wholesaler Mutual Drug Co. and can process the same types of health insurance as major chain pharmacies, including Medicare and Medicaid.

The pharmacy will match the special prices at other pharmacies, Smith said. It is well-stocked, and if the medicine isn’t available, the store will order it and have it ready by lunch time the next day.

The business plans to offer free delivery within a 10-mile radius of the store starting in late September. Deliveries will be made Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The 1,800-square-foot space also offers toiletry items and other basic goods. The store has a section of $1 items, as well.

This summer, Smith renovated the space, which is in the building that housed Lowes Foods, by extending the pharmacy counter area, adding shelving and installing a canopy over the drive-through.

Now, Smith just needs some customers.

“If we can get them in here, we won’t have a problem retaining them,” he said.

Smith, who lives in Browns Summit, has been a pharmacist for 15 years.

Opening his own pharmacy has been “a lifelong dream,” he said.
