GREENSBORO — The puppy found severely burned in a Greensboro park last week is doing much better, according to the Guilford County Animal Shelter.

The pit bull mix, which has been renamed Susie, is playful and active after spending the weekend with a foster family, said Marsha Williams, executive director of the shelter. “Her skin is healing, and she’s not in as much pain,” Williams said. “She is doing really well.”

The puppy was found about 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Greenfield Park in south Greensboro with severe second- and third-degree burns to her head, back, stomach, tail and legs.

Her ears were burned off and she had a broken jaw and broken teeth. Authorities believe the dog was injured two weeks before being abandoned.

Officials with Guilford County Animal Control said they have no leads. Anyone with information is encouraged to call animal control at 641-5990.

WANT TO HELP?

The puppy is being treated through “Cindy’s Fund,” a tax-free fund set up at the shelter for abused animals. The fund is named after Cindy, a dog who was thrown from a car window and hit by another car and suffered a broken back. Money raised for Cindy allowed her to be treated and later adopted into a home. Donations can be made to: United Animal Coalition; P.O. Box 8; Jamestown, N.C. 27282 or by stopping by the shelter at 4525 W. Wendover Ave.
