Clubhouse co-leader Chris Riley nearly scored a million Wyndham Reward points when his tee shot on the par-3 16th hole rattled the flagstick Friday. Now it gets even more cruel: Riley didn't even make birdie as his ball careened off the pin and rolled just off the green. He had to settle for par.
MOVING ON UP: Jeev M. Singh birdied six consecutive holes on the front nine Friday, his second nine of the day to go from 1-under (and missing the projected cut) to 7-under and on the leaderboard. Singh parred his final three holes for a 64, his lowest round of the season.
PRIME POSITION: There have been 13 second-round leaders who have gone on to win PGA Tour events in Greensboro, including four since 1999: Hal Sutton in 2000, Shigeki Maruyama in 2003, Brent Geiberger in 2004 and Carl Pettersson last year.
SAME AS IT EVER WAS: Once again, the 507-yard 18th is shaping up to be the toughest hole at this week's Wyndham. The closing hole yielded just 12 birdies Friday, including only one by anyone in the top nine. That came from Riley, who rolled in a 37-foot putt from the fringe.
