Children’s Home Society in High Point will offer a free information session Saturday or people interested in providing foster care for children with special needs.
“This meeting is for people who want to feel the real satisfaction that comes from helping children in need overcome their challenges,” said Becky Wrisley, the CHS director of marketing and communications.
This type of care is known as “therapeutic” foster care because it is considered a form of mental health treatment, she said.
Therapeutic foster care is a temporary placement in a licensed foster home for children and teens who have impairments in their ability to function within their families, in school or in the community.
“This will be a wonderful opportunity for people interested in providing any type of foster care to learn more about the process and to understand the requirements,” Wrisley said.
Single people or couples can participate, she said. Foster parents receive special training and extensive help and support services. The state also provides a small stipend to help pay for some of the expenses involved in caring for children.
The meeting will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the new Deep River Recreation Center, 1529 Skeet Club Road in High Point.
Anyone interested in attending should call Courtney Dabney at (800) 632-1400, Ext. 353.
Children’s Home Society is a statewide, nonprofit, nonsectarian private adoption and foster care agency that has operated for more than 100 years.
