GREENSBORO — Simon McGreal, a teaching pro at Precision Golf School in Greensboro, was one of four golfers to qualify Monday for this week's Wyndham Championship.

David Robinson of Sandersville, Ga., shot 66 on the Bryan Park Champions course and was medalist. Fernando Mechereffe (67) of Charlotte and Ryan Blaum (67) of Coral Gables, Fla., also qualified.

McGreal was one of nine golfers competing for the last spot in the tournament. He rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole — No. 18 — to qualify. Two other local golfers, Kernersville's Savio Nazareth and Greensboro's Steve Sharpe also advanced to the playoff.

MEMBERS ONLY: Wyndham Championship officials opened Monday's Wrangler pro-am only to members of Sedgefield Country Club, a small thank-you to the club for giving up its course for nearly two weeks. A few other tournaments — the AT&T being the latest — have done the same thing this year, giving members a chance to see players up close before the throngs arrive later in the week.

"We're always trying to improve our partnership with Sedgefield," said tournament director Mark Brazil. "The very last thing we want to do is come in and act like we own the place. We appreciate the sacrifices they're making this week."

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Golfer Lee Janzen is in town this week for some golf and goodwill. The two-time U.S. Open champion will host a food distribution at 3 p.m. today at the Greensboro Urban Ministry Food Bank at 305 W. Lee Street.

Janzen's group, Feed The Children, will work with the Urban Ministry Food Bank to provide a box of food and a box of personal-care items to recipients. The boxes are designed to help supplement a family for up to one week.

TEACHING A LESSON: U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, one of the star attractions in this week's Wyndham, will offer an instructional lesson from 5:30-6:30 p.m. today at Velocity Sports Performance at 414 Gallimore Dairy Road in Greensboro.
