GREENSBORO — A man robbed a taxi cab driver at gunpoint shortly after midnight Monday, police said.
Eugene Bernard, a driver for United Yellow Taxi, was dispatched to a vacant home at 2124 Textile Drive when a man exited the front door and approached him, according to Greensboro police.
He asked the driver, "How much is this gonna cost?"
The man then displayed a handgun and demanded money, police said.
He forced the driver to get out of the taxi and searched him. He took an undisclosed amount of money and a cellular phone before fleeing south behind the home toward Carrieland Drive.
A police dog tracked him to the 1300 block of Jolson Street in the parking lot of a retirement community but could not find him.
Police described him as black with a light complexion, in his 20s to 30s, medium build, and 5 feet 9 inches tall. His hair was in cornrows, and he had a mustache. He was wearing a blue sweat shirt, dark bluejeans and a white bandanna on his head.
Police ask those with information to call Crimestoppers at 373-1000.
