NEWTON — Jeremy Mayfield's stepmother, who claimed she saw him take methamphetamine several times, was arrested after a confrontation at Mayfield's home Saturday night.
Lisa Mayfield, 48, was charged with four counts of simple assault and second degree trespassing at Jeremy Mayfield's Catawba residence.
This continues a battle between Lisa Mayfield and Jeremy Mayfield, who has been suspended by NASCAR for violating its substance abuse policy.
Lisa Mayfield claimed in an affidavit, presented to federal court by NASCAR last month, that she witnessed Jeremy Mayfield take methamphetamine between 1998-2005. She also states that he also cooked some of his own methamphetamine.
Jeremy Mayfield responded by calling her disparaging names in interviews. He also claimed she killed his father, whose 2007 death was ruled a suicide.
Lisa Mayfield filed a defamation lawsuit against Jeremy Mayfield last month in Iredell County Superior Court.
Arrest warrants and criminal complaints filed allege that Lisa Mayfield went to the home of Jeremy and Shana Mayfield on Saturday night. Police were called about a complaint of an intoxicated person pounding on the door.
Damian Bone, a Mayfield employee who is listed as Asian, stated in his complaint that Lisa Mayfield: "threatened to kill the Mayfields, (called) me racial slurs, assaulted me, my wife, my daughter and my daughter's fiancée."
Jeremy Mayfield said in the complaint that he filed that Lisa Mayfield "has been told several times to stay away from our home."
Lisa Mayfield is scheduled to appear in Catawba County District Court on Sept. 14.
