STOKESDALE Town Council approved a site plan for a town hall building Thursday.

The planning board had rejected the plan by Stewart Cooper Newell Architects, citing that the notes and directions to the technical review committee were not complete.

The firm made changes to the plan and appealed the planning board's decision to the town council. Council members voted 5-0 to approve the plan at the recommendation of staff.

After the fire marshal addresses the one remaining concern whether the turning radius on the property is big enough to accommodate a fire engine - a building permit will be issued and the project will be put out to bid. A rough estimate for project is $1.4 million, said Carolyn L. Joyner, town clerk and finance officer.

The building will be on the same property as the town park under construction on Angel Pardue Road, adjacent to Stokesdale Elementary School.
