Tracey McGill
Natural Science Center

What she does: Tracey McGill has been volunteering at the Natural Science Center for more than nine years.
She began volunteering as a face painter for events and quickly became more and more interested in the Natural Science Center.
McGill now volunteers as a docent, meaning that she educates visitors on the ins and outs of the Natural Science Center, including introducing visitors to the many animals on site. She is trained to work in the labs and the Discovery House, where she takes the animals out of their habitats and allows visitors to touch and hold them.
In addition to volunteering two days per week, McGill attends GTCC.
What she tells others: “There are lots of ways to get involved and give back. Working with animals here is my way, and I love it!”

This week’s opportunity
The Guilford County Animal Shelter needs volunteers for adoption fairs. Help place dogs in permanent adoptive homes. Adoption fairs are every Saturday at the PetSmart on Bridford Parkway and every Sunday at the PetSmart on Lawndale Avenue. Teens younger than 18 may volunteer if accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Information:  Randy Mayo, 297-5020; randy@guilfordcountyanimalshelter.com; www.adoptshelterpets.org
