Summerfield breaking ground on new park

The town of Summerfield and the town’s athletic advisory committee will break ground on the town’s athletic park Thursday.

At 6 p.m., town officials and advisory committee members will take the first step of the construction process for the massive athletic park at 5200 U.S. 220 North.

Last month, the town council approved a construction contract with R.P. Murray.

As a condition for the acceptance of the contract, the project is to be completed within six months of the start of construction.

Every day the park is not completed, the contractor will be fined $500. The only exceptions made for this condition will be cases of inclement weather when no work can be done.

The event is open to the public. The rain date is Aug. 25.

Landscape company opens showroom

Southern Exposure Landscape Management invites the community to the grand opening of its new outdoor showroom from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 1000 N.C. 150 West, at Lake Brandt Road and N.C. 150.

Celebrate in the outdoor kitchen and relax by a two-tiered pond. Special discounts will be extended on new services the day of the event, and appointments will be scheduled for free landscape/hardscape design services. Vendors from local stone products, outdoor audio-visual and nursery providers will attend.
Guilford County Animal Shelter will also offer pet-adoption services.

Landscape design services, food, snow cones and drinks will be available for donations, with all proceeds going to assist the animal shelter.

Play date gives kids a chance to meet

Summerfield Elementary Newcomers Committee of the PTA is hosting a play date for rising kindergartners and their families at 4 p.m. Aug. 22 at Summerfield Park, 5404 Centerfield Road.
