The new Jamestown Middle School is still on track to be open in fall of 2010.
“We’re really excited about it,” Denise Richmond , principal of Jamestown Middle School, said Wednesday . “It’s really coming along. It’s almost under roof and we were excited to see it.”
Richmond and her administrative staff got to walk through the building this summer. She said after seeing the school on paper, actually seeing it in person was great.
“I was glad to bring that excitement back to my staff,” she said.
The new facility is off of Harvey Road and is expect to accommodate 1,100 students.
Grading and site development work of phase III of the project is under way, according to a construction update for the Guilford County Board last month .
Site clearing and grading has begun at the parent drop-off drive.
The contractor is continuing to erect structural steel, set bar joists and roof decking installation.
Under-slab rough-ins as well as concrete masonry unit wall erection are nearing completion.
The current school on Vickery Chapel Road will be used to expand Ragsdale High School, including a wing for students with autism.
Construction for both schools was scheduled with the 2003 bonds, but the school system ran out of funding before work could begin on the projects.
