Brady seeks court opinion on denial into investigation of RMA

GREENSBORO — Former Greensboro Deputy Police Chief Randall Brady is asking for a judge to determine whether the N.C. Private Protective Services Board should be bound to investigate his allegations that Risk Management Associates made false statements in its 2005 investigation of the police department.

In a complaint filed in Guilford County Superior Court on Friday, Brady asked for the courts to determine if the Private Protective Services Board, which regulates and licenses private protective services in the state, is bound by law to follow up on a complaint he filed in March regarding RMA.

Brady alleges that RMA, a Raleigh-based consulting firm hired by the city in 2005 to investigate allegations of misconduct at the department under former Police Chief David Wray, “knowingly made false statements in its report to the City of Greensboro, and that the individual who conducted the polygraph of Mr. Brady did not meet established standards for a polygrapher.”

The complaint states many of the references to Brady in the RMA report indicate wrongdoing on his part.

According to court documents, Brady filed a complaint with the Private Protective Services Board in March asking for an investigation of RMA.

That request was denied in June because the board only investigates complaints made by clients of the private investigative firm — in this case the city — and not others.

According to state law, the board can suspend or revoke the license of any firm that “knowingly made any false report to the employer or client for whom information is being obtained.”

Brady’s lawyer, Seth Cohen, declined to release a copy of the complaint Brady made to the board.

“Some of Risk Management’s factual statements are untrue and others leave out critical facts that leave a distorted view of the facts,” Cohen said.

“All (Brady) asks is that the board review this to see if they agree.”

Michael Longmire, president of Risk Management Associates, declined comment on Brady’s allegations when reached by phone Tuesday.
