Why the Grasshoppers lost: Charles Leesman and two relievers combined on a six-hit shutout to lead Kannapolis past Greensboro. Leesman (10-8) allowed four hits in seven innings with two walks and eight strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 3.06. Leroy Hunt survived a rocky eighth inning without giving up a run and Drew O'Neil pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his first save.
Performances worth noting: For Greensboro -- leadoff hitter Paul Gran went 2-for-3 with a double. ... For Kannapolis -- Kenneth Williams, Jared Mitchell and Joshua Phegley each collected a hit.
Also worth noting: The loss dropped the Grasshoppers to 14-28 in the second half and last in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division. The division-leading Intimidators (27-15) are four games ahead of second-place Lake County.
The big play: Luis Sierra's sacrifice fly in the first plated Kannapolis' first run. The Intimidators added two more in the sixth on Daniel Black's RBI double and Phegley's run-scoring single.
