Jamestown is getting into the swing of the Wyndham Championship Golf Tournament with a new downtown event — Jamestown Swing.

The festival will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Gannaway Street, which will be blocked from Main Street to Ragsdale Road and turned into a concert venue, with stages set up on both ends.

“Jamestown is such a beautiful place, and this is the perfect venue to kick off Wyndham,” said Georgia Nixon-Roney , town council member.

The 70th Wyndham golf championship is Aug. 17-23 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.

Roney said Jamestown Swing will appeal to all ages.

Entertainers are one leg UP, Martha and the Moodswingers, Blues World Order, Shaggie Maggie, Hot Politics, Five Gallon Groove and Walrus.

The event will include two beer gardens, a wine-tasting area and food vendors.

Shaded picnic areas and a mist tent will be available.

Patrons will also get to browse a variety of arts and crafts and golf apparel and equipment.

Piedmont Swing Dance Society will show attendees how to Jitterbug and Lindyhop. Event organizers will also sell raffle tickets for Wyndham Championship tickets and gift certificates to local shops.

Proceeds will benefit the Ragsdale YMCA’s “We Build People Campaign,” which supports the Y’s scholarship program.
