GREENSBORO – Local leaders are looking for volunteers and donations to host a community event Thursday at the Hickory Trails apartments, the site of a deadly shooting this week.
A 16-year old boy was killed there Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday night was National Night Out, a crime prevention event hosted by the police department with dozens of neighborhood parties across the city.
Now local leaders are hoping to bring that kind of community event to this neighborhood.
“The idea is Hickory Trails apartments didn’t have a National Night Out, but they did have a homicide,” said Ben Holder, who is running for City Council. “It is a perfect place to have National Night Out.”
Organizers need supplies, money and volunteers to help cook, set up the event or donate cooking equipment. Anyone who wants to participate can call Holder at 617-0624.
