Seeing stars onstage

— Anoop might be the Tar Heel homeboy, but an informal survey among those going to the American Idols Live! Tour on Sunday showed that Adam was the crowd favorite.

“He’s fabulous,” said Casey Davis, 14, her hair adorned with an Adam Lambertesque blue streak. She had on orange pants and painted her fingernails black for the show, too.

Her friend Sara Stamatiades, also 14, chimed in as they waited to go in before the show at Greensboro Coliseum on Sunday.

“We were running around, and getting our outfits ready,” Sara said, also with a blue streak in her hair.

“We got Adamized,” Casey said.

The two came from Charleston, S.C., with their moms for the show, which was a near sellout.

And those who were a little closer to Anoop Desai’s Chapel Hill home seemed to have preferences for the show.

“Adam, he’s going to put on a show,” said Stacey Sink of Durham as she tailgated before the show by sipping from a cup and snacking on crackers, cheese and grapes with her Durham friend Anne Niemann.

“And Anoop, he’s the local,” Sink added, ticking off the reasons she came to see the top 10 finalists on the 50-city tour.

Their college-age and high school daughters are fans, but Sunday, for Niemann and Sink, was for moms.

“We didn’t ask them to come,” Niemann said, laughing.

Not that it was all about ladies going to the show, either.

“Allison (Iraheta), this girl is going somewhere,” said Bob Dezuba, who drove from Wilmington with three of his friends to attend the show.

“Even the elderly are out here,” joked his friend, Maureen Wiltse.

That foursome certainly had more gray hairs among them than a pair of teenagers — or a pair of moms with teenagers — but they weren’t lacking in enthusiasm for the show.

“This was the best year for Idol,” said William McBride, as nods of agreement supported his claim.

Like the teens, and seemingly just about anyone else who watches Idol, they called one another during commercials to talk about the contestants and guess who would make it to the next rounds.

“We talk on the phone a lot,” McBride said. “We just like good music. We’re huge fans.”
