Andrews grad rated highly among CBs

College football analyst Phil Steele rates former Andrews High School standout Marcus Gilchrist as the No. 36 cornerback in college football.

Not bad for someone who was primarily a reserve during his first two seasons at Clemson.

Gilchrist is not one of the Tigers' eight returning starters on defense, but he may be one of the team's most important players. At 5-feet-11 and 185 pounds with a 37-inch vertical leap, Gilchrist will provide quickness and athletic ability as the listed starter at free safety.

"Marcus will do a great job for us this year," Clemson defensive end Ricky Sapp said during the recent ACC Football Kickoff at Grandover Resort. "He'll really be able to use his quickness at safety, and he's strong for his size, too."

WOFFORD: Wofford starting halfback Jeremy Marshall will miss this season while recovering from knee surgery.

Terriers coach Mike Ayers said the training staff believes Marshall is not 100 percent and might not be until late this season. Ayers said it was better for Marshall to redshirt this fall and come back healthy in 2010.

Marshall is a senior who started seven games last season. He tore a knee ligament early in a game against Appalachian State last October and has not played since.
