RUFFIN — Rockingham County authorities are looking for a man who used a strobe light to pull over a woman, then chased her to a nearby mobile home park.
The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said the woman, a 19-year-old who it did not identify, was driving on Oregon Hill Road at about 2:30 a.m. today when a vehicle drove up behind her and flashed a white strobe light.
The woman pulled over. The driver of the second vehicle got out, and the woman noticed he was not wearing a police uniform. The woman then drove away, turned off her lights and tried to turn into the Leisure Land mobile home park. But the woman struck a sign and got her car stuck.
Two residents of the mobile home park heard the crash and the victim's screams and came outside. They watched the suspect, who had followed the woman to the park, drive off.
The sheriff's office described the suspect as a black or Hispanic man who stands about 5-foot-10 with a stocky build and short black hair. He wore a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts or pants. He was driving a light-colored Honda or Ford station wagon with a strobe light on the dashboard or under the rear-view mirror.
Anyone with information about this incident can call detectives at 634-3238 or Crime Stoppers at 349-9683.
