Chris Paul clinic is set for August

Former Wake Forest guard Chris Paul, currently with the NBA's New Orleans Hornets, will hold a youth basketball camp for boys and girls ages 8-16 Aug. 11-14 at the Southeast Gateway YWCA in Winston-Salem. The camp will run daily 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. with departure Friday at 1 p.m. The camp is limited to 150 kids. For information, visit www.cp3camps.com or call 480-248-6645.

GASTONIA 4, HITOMS 0: Robert Jerozsko pitched eight scoreless innings to lead the Gastonia Grizzlies (7-13) over the HiToms (11-11) in Coastal Plain League baseball at Sims Legion Park in Gastonia.

YOUTH BASKETBALL

N.C. GATERS 49, CINCINNATI 30: The N.C. Gaters won the first game in pool play Monday by defeating the Cincinnati Bulldogs in the AAU 11 & Under national championships in Cocoa Beach, Fla. The Gaters' were led by Harry Giles (15 points) and Jalen Gore (nine).

YOUTH SWIMMING

OLIVER WINS FREESTYLE: The Greensboro Swim Association's Myles Oliver won the men's 100-meter freestyle at the N.C. Senior Long Course Championships in Charlotte, July 23-26. Oliver also placed second in the men's 50-meter freestyle. His times in both events qualified him for the 2012 Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. Additional GSA medal winners were Christoph Berger, Natalie Labonge, Hannah Martin, Kate Riley and William Ruhm. The men's 400-meter medley relay team earned silver and the 400-meter freestyle relay team placed third. GSA placed sixth overall against the 24 teams.

AUTO RACING

CARAWAY SPEEDWAY: Pole-sitter Travis Swaim of High Point won the first 100-lap Late Model Stock at Caraway Speedway on Saturday. Ryan Wilson of Randleman won the second 100-lap event. Other winners were Timothy Watkins of Angier (Limited Late Model), Chuck Wall of Winston Salem (Mini Stock), Scottie York of Asheboro (Super Mini Truck), Dave Hammond of Sophia (Pure Stock), Robert Johnson, (Sportsman), Nathan Bess of Lexington (Late Model Super Truck), Zack Bralley of Asheboro (U-Car), Clyde Johnson of Sanford (Street Stocks) and Daniel Hemric (Legends).
