The Anti-Violence Committee of the Triad

What he does: Mark Wooldridge is the volunteer Webmaster for the Anti-Violence Committee of the Triad. He began his search for a place to give back by turning to the Volunteer Center Website (www. volunteergso.org), where he found the AVC’s request for assistance.
When he searched online for information about who they are and what they do, he discovered the Anti-Violence Committee lacked a formal Web site.
Wooldridge saw this as a huge problem. “Here’s this great organization, who’s doing such a great thing in the community and they don’t have any Web presence!” Wooldridge said.
Wooldridge, who creates Web sites as a hobby outside of his full-time job, saw this as a great opportunity to get involved. He took several months to learn about AVC, meets its members and understand the mission and impact on the community. He then built a Web site from scratch that allows people to learn more about AVC and makes resources and training materials easily available. Wooldridge’s commitment as Webmaster has given AVC a strong Web presence and enabled the organization to reach out to many other people. The Web site also helps the AVC do online fundraising, which has been a great asset.
What he tells others: “Life gives you lots of things, and your time comes to when you have to give back as well. I’ve been on the receiving end of a lot of things, and I felt like it was my time to help someone else.”

Volunteer Opportunity

The Women’s Hospital of Greensboro needs volunteers to assist with their annual Newborn Intensive Care Unit reunion Aug. Volunteers are needed for shifts between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Interested groups, call Shawn Houck, marketing, 832-8131.
