Man charged with raping, killing woman, 61
GREENSBORO — A man was arrested and charged Wednesday in connection with the November 2008 killing of 61-year-old Marie Byrd.
Donald Lee Ingram, 25, was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree arson, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree rape. Greensboro police arrested him about 5 p.m. Wednesday.
He was being held at the Guilford County jail with no bond.
Byrd was killed Nov. 25 at her residence at 1918-A E. Market St. Police have said her body was burned as a cover-up.
Capt. Janice Rogers said the investigation got a boost when police received forensics analysis from the SBI office in Raleigh on Tuesday.
