Can Wyndham expect Cink? It's not impossible

GREENSBORO — The Wyndham Championship already has a commitment from U.S. Open champ Lucas Glover. Can tournament officials land the British Open winner Stewart Cink, too?

Earlier this year, Cink told his caddie, Greensboro native Frank Williams, that he intended to play in next month's Wyndham.

Williams lives outside Asheville but grew up in Greensboro. He visits his brother here regularly and has many friends here. He still gets his hair cut at the Hair Shop of Lawndale.

"I think (Cink) knows how special Greensboro is to me, but I really don't know if (winning the British Open) changes things for him," said Williams.

Williams and Cink were walking down the 18th hole at Turnberry on Sunday when Williams turned to Cink and said. "I guess Greensboro's out."

"He just busted out laughing," said Williams. "It's a tough stretch, but he still hasn't ruled it out."
