GREENSBORO — A man who was shot and killed outside a downtown club early Monday morning has been identified as 31-year-old Rufus Lee Morrison III of Kinston, police said.
Emergency officials found Morrison lying in the parking lot at Club Rain at 219 W. Lewis St., Greensboro police said.
EMS workers performed CPR on Morrison en route to Moses Cone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police arrived at the club at 4:17 a.m. after a report that a man had been shot multiple times.
Club owner Montis Lash said about 10 people, mostly staff members, had the doors locked and were playing cards and playing pool and the shooting happened as they were leaving.
Capt. Janice Rogers with Greensboro police said investigators have yet to determine a motive for the shooting, but said that Morrison was among the group leaving the club.
Lash said late Monday that the shooting was not related to his club. A message left for him Tuesday afternoon was not returned.
Attempts to reach Morrison's family this afternoon for comment were unsuccessful.
Police ask anyone with information in the case to call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000. Callers remain anonymous and are eligible for cash rewards.
