The election filing period for the town of Sedalia has been extended until noon Friday.
Sedalia residents will vote to fill three vacant seats in the November election.
Terms for Councilwomen Jeanne Rudd , Valerie Mack and Ophelia Jones expire in November.
Mack and Jones have filed for re-election. At the end of the initial filing period on July 17, they were the only two who had filed to run for the three at-large seats.
“There’s always a write-in option, and whoever gets the most write-in votes would be certified the winner,” said George Gilbert , the Guilford County director of elections.
That winner could be anybody -- real or fictional -- he said.
“It’s usually not a good option; that’s why we give them the extension and the opportunity to go recruit someone who is willing to serve on the council.”
Town Clerk Cam Dungee said Monday that council members have been in touch with some residents who might be interested in filing.
“We’re hoping that more come in and file,” Dungee said. “It leaves it open for us to actually have a pick.”
While there residents do not need to worry, the lack of an additional candidate has alarmed members of the town council, she said.
“It is a concern of ours to get someone on the board who will be an asset to the community and be what the community needs.”
The job pays a $150 stipend each month and some reimbursement for travel.
Interested residents can file at the town hall by filling out the appropriate papers and paying the $5 fee. For information, call the town hall at 449-1132.
