Rockingham County weekend: Music in the Park

Wednesday, July 15, 2009
(Updated 1:43 pm)

“The hills are alive with the sound of music.” Yes indeed, the sounds of music will be on tap for the weekend.

On Saturday, Music in the Park takes place at the gazebo in Mayodan Park. A concert under the stars will feature Broken Bread and the Mayodan United Methodist Praise Team. And it’s free. Bring your lawn chair or your blankets and enjoy the show.

Guitar legend Frank Vignola, who has played with Ringo Starr, Wynton Marsalis, Madonna and Queen Latifah, will perform with the Hot Club of North Carolina at Dan River Coffee House in Madison. “The Hot Club is honored to have Frank play with us,” says Rex Griffin, founder and lead guitarist of the Hot Club of North Carolina. “We can’t wait to create this unique musical happening for North Carolina jazz and guitar aficionados.”

Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. The show will start at 8 p.m.

And on Sunday, help out Hospice of Rockingham County by attending Shaggin’ in the Vines featuring The Embers at Autumn Creek Vineyards. Everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, suncreen and shaggin’ shoes and listen to your favorite tunes. Save a few bucks and purchase your tickets in advance, all to help out a worthwhile organization.

Enjoy your weekend.
