ELIZABETH CITY (AP) — Sheriff's deputies in a coastal county have seized more than $3 million worth of marijuana plants.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that officers pulled up nearly 3,000 plants Tuesday in Pasquotank County. Officers say the plants are worth about $3.6 million.

Investigator William Williams says trees had been cut to allow more sun into the quarter-acre plot. He says none of the plants had buds so it appeared they already had been harvested.

Officials say the sheriff's office had received numerous calls about the marijuana field before deputies pulled up the plants.
