GREENSBORO — A 71-year-old man was arrested and charged Wednesday in connection with a fatal 2002 car crash on Interstate 40.
Plak Kpa was arrested by police in connection with the Oct. 12, 2002 death of 57-year-old Landis Grey Faulkner after reportedly leaving town and living in Raleigh for the past seven years, according to court documents.
According to a 2002 report of the crash, both men were driving westbound on Interstate 40, when Kpa attempted to change lanes in his Toyota, striking a tractor trailer driven by Faulkner.
The crash, which happened near Randleman Road, sent Faulkner’s tractor trailer through a guardrail. The Toyota became lodged into the rig’s rear wheels.
Faulkner, of Graham, was thrown from the truck and was reported dead at the scene, reportedly from head injures.
Several other passengers in Kpa’s vehicle suffered injuries.
Court documents state a police officer was set to interview Kpa the day after the crash, but he had left town. He turned up this week living in Raleigh.
Kpa has been charged with one count of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. An arrest warrant states he failed to look before changing lanes, causing the crash.
He remains in the Guilford County jail on a $10,000 bond.
