HIGH POINT — Police say a motorist ran a red light and struck another car on Sunday, killing one person.

Rachael Myers, 75, of 1604 W. Ward Ave. in High Point, was a passenger in a 1995 Nissan that was driven by her daughter, Delores Myers Shafi. The two were headed north on Main Street about 3:21 p.m. when their car was struck by a 1992 Acura that was headed west on English Road. The Acura failed to stop at a red light, police stated.

Myers was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where she died several hours after the wreck, according to police.

The Acura's driver, John Willard Young Jr., 43, of 149 Secluded Way in Thomasville, was charged Monday with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. He was released by the magistrate on a written promise to appear in court.
