GRAHAM (MCT) — A third man wanted for his alleged involvement in Sara Dixon's homicide was found in the Green Level area Monday afternoon.

The Alamance County Sheriff's Office searched for 21-year-old Matthew Devon Fields all weekend. Investigators thought he might have left the state, but deputies found him at a house on James Boswell Road at about 3 p.m. Monday.

Fields, whose last known address was Holt Street in Mebane, was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree burglary. His arrest warrant states that Fields broke into Dixon's home on the night she was killed.

Fields is being held without bond in the Alamance County jail. Details about Fields' role in the November 2007 shooting death of 68-year-old Sara Dixon were not immediately available. Investigators also have not detailed his connection to Dixon's stepson, Robert Dennis Dixon, who also was charged in this case.

Robert Dixon, 45, of McCray Road, and Thomas Clay Friday, 36, were charged July 7 after a 19-month investigation. In addition to first-degree murder, they were both charged with felony conspiracy. Dixon also was charged with solicitation to commit a felony.

At their first court appearance Wednesday, Dixon said he had already hired Chapel Hill attorney Amos Tyndall to represent him. Friday requested a court-appointed attorney.

Dixon is being held without bond in the Caswell County jail. Caswell County Sheriff Michael Welch said that Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson requested that he house Dixon in Caswell County. Neither sheriff would provide a reason for the move. Friday remains in the Alamance County jail without bond.

Sara Dixon's body was found by neighbors Nov. 30, 2007, in her home at 2033 McCray Road in northern Alamance County. She was in bed, dead from a gunshot wound to her head.

Robert Dennis Dixon lived in a mobile home on the 41-acre plot. Robert Dixon's father, Cardwell Dixon, had a debilitating stroke years before Sara Dixon's death and was placed in Alamance Health Care. Sara Dixon remained in the house the couple shared.

In the first days of the investigation, authorities asked Robert Dixon for a file box that contained wills, deeds and notes concerning the McCray Road property. He denied having it.

Investigators spoke with Alan Dixon, Robert Dixon's brother who lives in Virginia, about the box. Alan Dixon told investigators that Robert Dixon had it.

When investigators relayed that information to Robert Dixon, he allegedly provided and consented to a search of the box, according to a search warrant obtained Dec. 3, 2007. At that time, the sheriff's Department also seized Robert Dixon's work computer.
