GREENSBORO — The surviving suspect from a Feb. 9 bank robbery and subsequent shoot-out with Greensboro police has been transferred to Guilford County while he awaits trial.
Christopher O’Neal Patterson, 23, was booked into the High Point jail June 29 after spending more than four months in the hospital ward of Central Prison in Raleigh, where he underwent treatment for gunshot wounds.
Patterson and Dimarkchrisy Eddie Majors, 22, are suspected of robbing the Wachovia bank branch on High Point Road about 5 p.m. on Feb. 9.
As the suspects entered the bank, they pistol-whipped a customer, who managed to get away from the bank and dial 911. As the suspects fled, the man provided information and turn-by-turn directions on the suspects’ whereabouts to dispatchers.
Police said the suspects shot at officers during a pursuit before losing control and crashing near the entrance to Interstate 40 Business on Patterson Street. Seven police officers were involved in a roadside shoot-out with the suspects. Both suspects were wounded. Majors died the next day.
Officer Matt O’Hal was struck by the suspects’ vehicle when it crashed and was
shot twice in the gunbattle, but expects to make a full recovery.
Thus far, Patterson has only been charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon. However, he was indicted by a federal grand jury in late February on charges of armed bank robbery, bank robbery, discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Assistant Guilford County District Attorney Howard Neumann said Monday that state and federal prosecutors are sorting out what charges Patterson will face at each level. The duo also has been accused in several other armed robberies in Greensboro, High Point and Burlington.
Patterson is being held in lieu of a $2 million bond.
