Greensboro's Bullock loses in Charleston

Thomas Bullock of Greensboro lost Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the 95th Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association at the Country Club of Charleston.

Bullock's opponent, Josh Gallman of Gaffney, S.C., will play today in the championship round.

CUMMINGS PLACES SECOND: Bob Webber of Winston-Salem shot a 77 in the Egolf Amateur Tour at Seven Lakes Country Club today to grab top honors in the A Flight. Webber finished 1 stroke ahead of Reidsville's Steve Cummings on the 6,556 yard, par 72 layout.

The B Flight saw a fight-to-the-finish between two Greensboro members, with Tim Ward taking a 1-shot victory from Jeff Posey, 80 to 81. Ward started and finished the front nine "birdie-birdie" to help him to his win.

BASEBALL

MARTINSVILLE 5, THOMASVILLE 1: The HiToms (3-7, 17-20) lost its fourth consecutive road game losing to the Martinsville Mustangs (6-3, 13-24) at Hooker Field 5-1. Pat Dean (2-1) started the game and collected the loss for the HiToms pitching six innings and allowing two runs.

Martinsville scored first Saturday night with one run in the second on a passed ball as Matt Ramsey, Tennessee, made his first start as catcher for the HiToms. The Mustangs added another run in the fifth inning taking a 2-1 advantage.

The HiToms play at 5 p.m. today as they host the Gastonia Grizzlies for Church Night at Finch Field.

GASTONIA 4, ASHEBORO 3: Gastonia (5-5) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to overcome Asheboro (3-7) at Sims Legion Park on Saturday.
