Men's and women's indoor track and field are officially UNCG's 17th and 18th sports, the university announced Friday.
The cross country and track programs have been in existence since the 1991-92 season. The program competed in an indoor schedule, which included the Southern Conference's indoor championship, but had not been eligible for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
BASEBALL
MUSTANGS 4, HITOMS 1: The HiToms (3-6, 17-19) lost at home to the Martinsville (5-3, 12-24) Friday for the first time this season, snapping a 10 game winning streak against the Mustangs at Finch Field.
Right-hander Michael Park started the game for Thomasville, pitching seven innings while allowing five hits and three runs.
The HiToms will host the Gastonia Grizzlies at 5 p.m. Sunday for the Cricket Communications Green Game.
FOOTBALL
HUDGINS HONORED: Elon senior football player Terrell Hudgins has been selected to the 2009 Sports Network Preseason Football Championship Subdivision All-America Team. The 6-2, 234-pound wide receiver was among the 13 players named to the offensive first-team.
Men's golf
BOWMAN PLACES THIRD: UNCG's Will Bowman carded a final round 74 to tie for third at the Boyd Quaich Memorial Students' International Golf Tournament at St. Andrew's.
BULLOCK ADVANCES: Thomas Bullock of Greensboro has to the quarterfinal round of the 95th Anateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association at the Country Club of Charleston. He tees off at 8:10 a.m. today.
Gibsonville's Jayson Judy also competed in the tournament, but lost on Friday.
Women's soccer
PLAYERS ADDED: UNCG has added N.C. State transfer Stephanie Partenheimer and Jamestown's Jessi Gulledge to the team.
Partenheimer, the younger sister of rising UNCG junior Jenn Partenheimer, will enter as a redshirt freshman after sitting out the 2008 season for the Wolfpack with injury.
Gulledge, a 5-8 forward, was a four-year letterwinner for Ragsdale High, earning All-Mid Piedmont Conference and all-region honors from 2006-08. She also played one year of volleyball and two of track, leaving Ragsdale as the school record-holder in the 4x400.
