GRASSHOPPERS REPORT

Suns 8, Grasshoppers 1

Site: NewBridge Bank Park, Greensboro.

Why the Grasshoppers lost: The first seven Hagerstown batters in the third inning reached base. Greensboro starter Graham Johnson (5-3, 3.93 ERA) gave up pair of home runs sandwiched around a walk. Tyler Moore hit the first one, a three-run homer, and after Steven Souza walked, Charlie Fermaint hit the second. The Suns scored seven runs in the inning.

Performances worth noting: Greensboro: Bryan Evans replaced Johnson after a Nick Arata triple and allowed a run on a groundout. Evans worked five innings and gave up four hits and no earned runs with one walk and two strikeouts. Hagerstown: Pick your poisen. Moore and Fermaint finished with three RBIs each.

Also worth noting: Kyle Skipworth went 2-for4 with the Hoppers' only RBI. His sixth-inning double scored Ben Lasater.

The big play: A Justin Jacobs pop-fly out ended a one-two-three second inning for the Grasshoppers, which allowed that seven-run third inning to take place.

Up next: Hagerstowon at Greensboro, 7:05 p.m. today (WPET-950)
