2 kind people help friends stay close

This is a story about two kind, generous people, neither of whom would want their names used.

One is a friend who lived in the same neighborhood with five widows, ages 87 to 94. Every week on her day off she took all the ladies to Walmart, where they had breakfast and did their shopping. When they were finished she picked them up and took them home.

She also cooked for them when she could, took them to their doctors and provided transportation for other errands. They were grateful to have such a kind, dear friend and would leave little gifts such as an Easter basket on her front porch.

The son of one of the ladies, who lived out of state, wanted his mother to move near him. She would not leave her friends, so he offered a home to all of them. It was a five-bedroom house that he and his wife had vacated because they were downsizing.

He moved all five of them into this house, planted a garden and arranged for a van to take them to church. He has promised them that even if his mother dies first, they will have a home for the rest of their lives.

They have been moved about two months. My friend misses them and visits them, but she is thrilled that they are all together and happy.

As busy as we all are, one unknown person stands out for me.

To the person who found my cell phone in the parking lot at New Garden Road and actually turned it in to Papa John’s, thank you! By one act of kindness, you made my day.

You saved me the time, expense of having to get a new one, and the loss of unpublished phone numbers to out of state family members.

It’s great to know there are terrific people in this town.
