Help balance budget with property lotteries

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Thanks for allowing me to express a concern about the same old position our local government seems to offer when dealing with budget challenges, whether the remedy be a tax increase or a reduction of workers or services or both.

That dog don’t hunt.

Our local banks have a glut of residential properties they need to get off their books, due to foreclosures.

Why not look into having the city or county purchase some of these properties for 60 or 70 cents on the dollar and hold property lotteries periodically?

With tickets in the $20 to $40 range, it should be a fairly easy task to gross $1 million per property.

Of course, this is just speculation, but I dare say county residents would voice fewer objections in helping to make up a budget shortfall if they stood a decent chance of winning a piece of real estate as opposed to losing to another mindless tax increase.

I'm taking Japanese, and not Chinese, and don't know two of those kanji, but is it: I think my friend's food something?

I? tabe/food? tomodachi/friend? no clue I think?

it's Mandarin...pinyin without the tones is 'hen you yisi'....translates to 'very interesting' or literally 'has a lot of meaning.'
