A man died today after being electrocuted in a construction accident at UNCG, campus police said.
The accident happened at approximately 1 p.m. at the Elliot University Center, according to Capt. Paul Lester of the UNCG Police Department.
The man, whose name has not been released, was a subcontractor hired by the university. While rewiring lighting fixtures between the bookstore and the coffee shop, he opened a junction box that still had power on and was electrocuted, Lester said.
Lester said the Fire Department and EMS responded quickly, but the man was unresponsive. He was taken to Moses Cone Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Because the incident was ruled an accident, no further investigation is planned, Lester said.
