Pedestrian killed along train tracks
GREENSBORO -- Police identified the woman hit by a train Friday night as Connie Marie Whitsett, 40, of 2100 Everitt St.
Whitsett died Friday night when she was hit by a Norfolk Southern train near Gillespie Street and Peachtree Street around 10:30 p.m.
Lt. J.P. Lowdermilk said a Whitsett was found dead at the scene. Whitsett may have been intoxicated, Lowdermilk said. The train personnel said they gave warnings but Whitsett did not move as the train traveled west, toward her. There is no indication that the incident was anything but accidental.
No charges will be filed against the train engineer.
