I have concerns after reading your recent article, “Greensboro College fending off creditors” (June 28). How was the detailed accounting data from the college’s accounts payable records obtained, since the college is a private entity whose accounting records are not matters of public record until made part of a legal proceeding?
Were these records ethically obtained from the administration, or rather by assistance from someone who was happy to supply, in a clandestine manner, fuel for the fire to assure “pressure mounts on the college’s president’’?
Remarks made about unpaid charges owed to Greensboro County Club implied that Greensboro College’s president, Dr. Williams, allows the college to pay for personal trainers for his wife.
I served eight years, until 2005, as vice president for business and finance at Greensboro College and know that Dr. Williams regularly reimbursed the college by check for personal use charges on this account. Did your reporter inquire of Dr. Williams concerning this matter before submitting the article for publication?
Greensboro College is traversing stormy financial waters. However, this much I know: Craven Williams has a love for the college, its faculty, staff and families that is real and exceptional. He is its ally, not its enemy!
