Suspect in stabbings eludes police after chase

BURLINGTON — A teen suspected of stabbing three people early today remains at large after a police chase.

Burlington police responded to a stabbing at 12:26 a.m. today to 1717 Durham St., Lot 162. An officer spotted the suspect's vehicle and began a pursuit that went into Alamance County.

The suspect crashed his white GMC Jimmy near the intersection of Durham Street Extension and Routh Road and ran away, according to a news release.

Two of the victims were taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center and treated for multiple lacerations. The other victim was taken to Moses Cone Hospital and treated for lacerations to the head and body. All three are in stable condition; police did not release their names.

The suspect is Jonathan Chandler Beam, 19, of Burlington. He is charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, one count of felony speeding to elude arrest and other traffic charges.

As of 9:15 a.m., Beam had not been arrested.
