Employees’ prayer circle helps ease a woman’s discomfort

I live at the Masonic and Eastern Star home. Because of back surgery, I was in the care and wellness center for a few days.

On Saturday night, after going to bed, I had heartburn so badly it hurt to breathe. I decided to get up and walk down the hall, thinking it would help. I got my walker and started down the hall.

Past the nurses’ station I saw two employees talking. As I passed them, I heard one of them say, “You know in the Bible, God said....”

When I heard that I thought, God is my answer. So I turned around and asked them if they believed in God. They answered, “We sure do.” So I asked them if they would say a prayer for me. They said they would.

They held my hands, and we formed a prayer circle. They said the most beautiful prayer I ever heard.

God was in the middle of our circle, and I felt him walking with me back to my room. I heard him saying over and over, “It’s going to be all right, Audrey,” and I knew my pain would be gone by the time I got back to my room.

I climbed back in bed and went peacefully to sleep.

I was at the graveside service at the funeral of my sister-in-law. It was the coldest day of the year in January.

While the preacher was talking, I couldn’t get warm. This nice young lady took her coat off and put it over my shoulders. That was so nice of her. She is my angel. Her name is Pearl Smith.
