On June 10, my car died in the parking lot of the Food Lion on 220 North in Summerfield. The temperature was nearing 90 degrees, and the groceries I just purchased contained perishable items.
My husband was out of town and all other attempts to reach neighbors failed. I am a member of AAA, but in the amount of time I would have to wait for them to help me, my groceries would be spoiled. I was also less than two minutes from my home.
I decided to go back into Food Lion. I approached one of the friendliest cashiers the store has employed, Rachel Harrison.
I told her of my predicament and asked if there was any way I could be helped. She went to her manager, Joe Galvin. Without hesitation he said, “We’ll take you home.”
Rachel drove me home after I loaded my groceries into her car.
The staff at this Food Lion went beyond the friendly greeting they give you when you enter their store to help me in a time of need. I will not forget their act of kindness.

The Cardiac Rehab at Moses Cone is actually a fun place to be if you are experiencing or discovering life-challenging heart issues.
The staff is professional and full of useful information. More important, their sensitivity, understanding and ability to “hear” what you are saying and feeling is in itself “healing.”
The kindness and care they show to each person go beyond their job descriptions.
My thanks to all staff members as well as the great crew of volunteers. A special thank you to Jackie; those hugs were priceless!
