Rockingham County weekend: Fun on the Fourth

Wednesday, July 1, 2009
(Updated 4:12 pm)

It’s Independence Day weekend, a great time to relax and take a load off. And I have a few suggestions to help you do just that.

Our nation’s favorite pastime, baseball, will be alive with the District 8 Dixie Youth Major and Minor Tournaments at Idol Park in Madison and the Eden YMCA. And Nations Baseball will hold a tournament at Freedom Park in Eden. These tournaments help bring in tourism dollars to our community. Let’s show our support.

Another relaxing event would be the Independence Day float on the Mayo and Dan rivers. The Dan River Basin Association is hosting the float Saturday. You can bring your own boat or rent one. Either way, you are sure to have a great time. Check in with DRBA and see the beauty of our county by way of the river.

And the annual Fourth of July celebrations continue this year at Lake Reidsville and at Morehead High School in Eden with entertainment, food, games and fireworks. For Stoneville, the Ruritan Club will sponsor a fun day with food and entertainment on Main Street.

All in all I would say that everyone should have a super time.
