If you still haven't finalized those summer vacation plans, it's not too late.
Consumer Reports magazine in its August issue offers some useful tips regarding saving some big bucks on last-minute travel plans.
Shop by regions
Decide on a broad region and then search for a deal instead of looking for a specific spot. Abroad, there have been good deals to Germany, Ireland and Spain, the magazine says. Once you're in Europe you can travel cheaply from city to city.
In America, cities such as Las Vegas, Miami, New Orleans New York and San Francisco are offering great deals, trying to make up for lost convention business.

Track rates
Lots of travel sites have price-tracking tools. Examples include www.bing.com/travel, which offers advice such as when to buy or wait on fares between 90 North American airports and hotel rates in 30 cities. Also provides e-mail alerts.
Price the packages
Travelocity, for example, recently offered last-minute and hotel packages to Las Vegas starting at $199 a person.
Empty rooms
Hotels have offered discounts, resort credits, upgrades and free breakfasts to entice you to stay. It's always good to see if they're willing to negotiate, too.
Cruises
Best deals for late summer are trips to Alaska. You'll also find deals in Mexico, especially in the fall.
