RALEIGH (AP) — The North Carolina House has approved a stopgap spending plan designed to give the legislature extra time to approve a state budget for the next two years.
The House voted 93-23 tonight on a so-called "continuing resolution" that directs how Gov. Beverly Perdue and state agencies can spend while there's no final budget in place.
The bill now returns to the Senate for consideration Tuesday. The Senate must accept the House changes or do some quick negotiating because the new fiscal year starts Wednesday, and Perdue must sign it into law.
